STORY OF NARENDRA MODI
It was 26th May of 2014 when Narendra Damodar Das Modi took the oath as the fifteenth prime minister of India. After the landslide victory of Narendra Modi led BJP in the 2014 general election Narendra Modi became the successor of Dr. Manmohan Singh of congress party. He also became the first ever prime minister of India who took birth after India got the independence. Under his leadership BJP backed a huge margin victory in the parliamentary election of 2014 and in for the first time in history of Indian politics that BJP backed the absolute majority since last 30 years. In whole BJP led NDA crossed 300 mark put of the total number lok sabha seats. After the emphatic win in the general election Narendra Modi dedicated the win to the common masses of India by giving assurance to the 1.25 billion people of India that “Ache Din Aane Wala Hai” it was also for the first time after 1996 that a single political party backed the absolute majority in the era of coalition government of Indian democracy. But no one has any idea that what the common individuals of the country are thinking of the election and as a result they gave their support to a leader who could stand on the aspirations of the common people of the nation and a stable government will lead the proceedings at the centre. As a result it was Narendra Modi who got the opportunity to be the next prime minister by replacing Dr. Manmohan Singh as the prime minister of India. He is emerging as a new ray of hope for the people of India that under his leadership the country will unfold few new chapters which will change the present situation which is becoming like obstacles in the path of development and economic prosperity. The foremost challenge before the new government was to find out some ways and means to deal with various crises which is breaking the path of the internal and external development and prosperity. Narendra Modi as the prime minister of India has to meet the expectations of the common individuals of the country who have voted for him with a view that under his leadership problems like economic stability, development, employment opportunity for the youth and poverty etc can be eradicated within a certain time frame.
The most important question is how Narendra Modi has accomplished such a near impossible task? Under his leadership BJP swept away the entire western region by backing 120 seats out of 130 and most importantly it was for the first time in the Indian political history after independence that a political party won all the seat of a single state, which was being achieved by Narendra Modi led BJP in Gujurat. Most of the senior BJP leaders like LK Adjani and Susa Sara retain their seat from their constituency and won as well. Narendra Modi himself won the election from Vadodara in a huge margin of more than five lakh votes. All the BJP chief ministers also contributed whole heartedly for the party’s glorified victory in the 2014 general election. Most of the experts were having the notion that Narendra Modi will clean sweep in the western region but it was shocking news during that point of time when BJP-Shiv Sena alliance backed 42 seats out of 48 seats in Maharashtra. Even in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh also Modi wave backed the ever highest number of seats for BJP in the 2014 election. But in Punjab only where BJP was defeated by the opposition and as a result senior BJP leader Arum Jailed lost to the former chief minister of Punjab Mariner Singh. BJP also gained a lot from the other states as well due to the Mode wave but Mode wave failed to make its mark in the south and east region of the country. In Tamilnadu Jayalalitha led AIDMK’s performance was quite commendable and in Odisha the Modi led BJP backed only two seats.  Any way Narendra Modi could able made a new chapter in the last 65 years of Indian parliamentary democracy. The whole world was following Indian parliamentary election and its’ results. And the country has able to emerge as a vibrant democracy in the global map. It is totally up to the new government and Narendra Modi to emerge as a world leader and to take the country into new highest.

Ever since Narendra Modi has occupied the prime minister post his government is trying hard and hard to bring the natural pace of development and prosperity to the country where the aspirations and expectations of the common individuals of the country can be achieved. And the fruits of development can be reached to each citizens of the country. Through the implementation of innovation and new ideas and policies, the governance has become transparent and the benefits are being experienced by the common masses of the country. at first the Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana marked a radical change in the Indian history that it gave a new scope to the ordinary people of the country to get involved in the developmental process of the country and it gave a new aspirations and means that it integrated every citizens of the country to get involved in the financial system. Nest is Modi’s call for Make in India campaign which made business easy and it promotes the news business houses to invest more a more for the betterment and development of the nation at a whole. And as a result it brought unprecedented change and it raised vigour in the minds of the entrepreneurs and investor to invest their capital in the Indian market. Initiative like “Shrameva Jayate” also empowered various labour classes of bother small and medium class industries and it has also boosted the youth of the country as well. The Modi led government also gave focus on three social security bill which kept senior citizen and the poor people of the country in the target group of the policies. Then in 2015 the government introduced Digital India campaign to bring qualitative change into the lives of the common individuals of the Indian society. And most importantly the “Swachh Bharat Aviyan” is a mass movement for cleanliness across the nation. The resolute of that scheme was historic and even today the impact is visible and is continuing as well. Under Nrendra Modi’s leadership Indian foreign policy also gone through a radical change and India is becoming a new world power in upcoming days. Narendra Modi himself is representing the nation in each and every meeting and conferences to build a positive and strong image of the country in the global market. He visited many western countries and addressed the Indian Diasporas and invited them to come to India and contribute for the development and prosperity of India. He is rendering his efforts to build good and cordial relation with each and every country for the prosperous future of India in the forthcoming time period. Lot of positive and developmental breakthroughs have been occurred in favour of India due to the untiring effort of this present Narendra Modi led government. His call for making one day as the international yoga day got a huge response from most of the nations and finally with each countries consent 21st June was declared as the International Yoga Day throughout the world. This is how the present government under the encouraging leadership of Narendra Modi is trying to meet the aspirations of the common individuals of the society.

STORY OF VARIOUS SCAMS DURING MANMOHAN SINGH’S GOVERNMENT.
This particular chapter deals with various scams which were exposed and came into public sphere during the government of Dr. Manmohan Singh. It is very simple that the thing which is happening in the government, it has direct or indirect impact on the individuals of the society. It was 26th of November when a new political party was formed in Indian politics and its name is Aam Aadmi Party(AAP) and to everyone’s surprise AAP captured the Delhi within a year by winning the legislative election of Delhi in 2013. It was totally astonishing that within such a small time frame a new born political party won a state election and the party founder became the chief minister of the that state. People often talks about the success story of Arbind Kejriwal the founder of AAP, but question often comes into minds that whether it was the struggling story of AAP or it is the failure of Dr. Manmohan Singh’s government which led to the inception of AAP. It was 2009 when Dr. Manmohan Singh became the prime minister for the second time because it was for the second time as well that UPA formed its government in the centre. In 2009 general election congress fought the election in the name of Dr. Manmohan Singh and on the other hand BJP in the name of LK Advani. Finally, it was congress which won the election of 2009. The opposition was claiming Dr. Manmohan Singh as the weakest prime minister ever in the Indian politics. But congress party was quite hopeful of winning the election of 2009 because of MGNREGA, which gave day to day income to millions of people of India and most importantly the government cleared all the farming loan from the farmers. Which gave a new hope to all the middle class family of the country. it was for the first time that Rahul Gandhi campaigned throughout the country for congress party. In 2009 election congress backed 209 seats, which was highest number since after 1984 election. People were giving appreciation to Rahul Gandhi for his untiring effort during the election days but Sonia Gandhi made clear before everyone that Dr. Manmohan Singh will remain the prime minister of India. It was for the second time that Dr. Manmohan Singh had the golden opportunity to serve the nation as the prime minister. But time to time due to some negative things which happened during Dr. Manmohan Singh government and finally time came in 2013 when there was no more faith of Sonia Gandhi on Dr. Manmohan Singh. So she declared that in the appropriate time her party congress will announce its priministerial candidate for the 2014 election. It was UPA 2 which had to suffer for the past work during the time of UPA 1. At that time a lot of scams were exposed likewise CWG scams, 2G scam, Coal Gate etc. For the first time, government came into limelight in regards to corruption, when PG Thomas joined as the chief vigilance commissioner. Susma Swaraj was in against of the appoint of PG Thomas as the CVC because according to her Pamolin case was going on against PG Thomas. After the appointment of PG Thomas as the CVC, it gave a new spirit to the opposition party. Then the opposition targeted the appointment of CVC as the major issue and finally supreme court stayed the appointment of PG Thomas as the CVC. It was the time when common individual was affected in their regular life due to inflation and the high price rate of essential commodities. At the same time one by one scam was coming to public sphere. Common individuals were facing a lot of problem in their day to day life. During that time, it was 2nd April 2011, when Indian cricket team won the cricket world cup after 28 years but the country didn’t have the set of mind to celebrate that wining occasion because a big social agitation was supposed to take in Delhi. Anna Hazare who is a Gandhian leader from Maharashtra, whose demand was very much simple and the agitation just raised the seriousness of mango people against the wrong happening in the society by the government. According to Anna Hazare to demolish corruption from the government and society, there has to be a strict set of law. And there has to be committee in which the participation of government and public will be 50:50. But didn’t agree on the proposal of Anna Hazare, so from 5th April 2011 Anna Hazare went on fasting and he was getting support from every nook and corner of the society. He was demanding for Jan Lokpal Bill. The whole nation came to know about the revolution which was started by Anna Hazare though means of mass communication. Many other prominent persons who were standing aside to Anna Hazare to help and they were like Arvind Kejriwal, Kiran Bedi, Prasant Bhusan and Santosh Hegde. Yoga guru Ram Dev also joined the campaign against corruption. All of them were saying a single thing that pass Jan Lokpal bill and it will control the inflation and the amount of corruption in the society. Public was listening to the words of Anna Hazare. At the initial days of the campaign government was avoiding it but after few day’s government changed its approach and after four days of strike government talked to the members of the civil society to make the law. So finally, the fast of Anna Hazare resulted in a good way and for the first time government was agreed to talk to the members of the civil society to make the law. Five minister were talking to th members of the civil society and drafted the Lokpal bill. Public was hoping that something will result in positive way. After Anna Hazare’s strike, it was Baba Ram Dev who challenged the government to go for a strong agitation against black money. Government sent it’s five minister to talk to Baba Ram Dev and convince him not to go for agitation but Baba Ram Dev didn’t listen anyone’s voice and he went for an agitation in Ramleela Maidan at Delhi. Late at night Delhi police attacked the civilians at the agitation place and many were injured as well. The first scam during UPA 1 period which came into public disclosure was CWG scam of 2010. The government was alleged with the organising committee of CWG 2010 for corruption. The people claimed that government spent money of the public like water, without any caring. Suresh Kalmadi was the chairman of the CWG organising committee and he was sent to jail with other members of the organising committee. Another scam also came into public sphere and that was Adarsh housing scam and for that scam chief minister Ashok Chauhan had to resign from his post. Then after few days another big scam came into eyes of the public of India and it was 2G scam. After 2G scam the politics of India took a new move and Dr. Manmohan Singh was targeted by the opposition in the parliament. Second generation wireless communication technology spectrum and the government of India sold the 2G spectrum in the year 2008. It was figured out that due to 2G scam the nation faced a loss of one lakh sixty thousand crore rupees. World famous TIME magazine placed 2G scam placed second in the list of world most abusive use of power. It was the year 2008 and A. Raja was the telecommunication minister during that time. He was from DMK party and in 2008 he had distributed 122 2G license in rupees one thousand six hundred fifty-one crore. It was the same prime when license was distributed in 2001. He followed First in First out method. People also claimed that the government has adopted a manipulative means and it also given license to few very new company in a very low price and later that new company sold that spectrum to other foreign company in more money. At first the dates for registration for licences was preponed and from that it proved that A Raja was trying to give license to a very particular group of companies. After the notice from Central Vigilance Commission, CBI arrested A Raja and he lived for fifteen months in the jail. DMK leader Kanimojhi also had to stay in the Tihar jail. Even CBI also filed charge sheet against Pramod Mahajan but as he was no more, so no case was filed against him. The CBI also arrested the private secretary of A Raja, RK Chandolia and ex-telecom secretary Siddharth Behura was also arrested by CBI. It was for the first time at a single time many big names from the corporate world and a cabinet minister were jailed in a single case. According to Comptroller Auditor General(CAG) the nation lost straightway an amount of one lakh seventy thousand rupees. But the most important question was prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh was remaining silent while these type of scams were exposed. Most of leaders if the opposition were alleging Dr. Manmohan Sing that everything had ahppend in the full knowledge of prime minister. Even A Raja also claimed that the decision of FIFO was of government and after few days the government also admitted that the decision of FIFO was from government side but A Raja used it in a wrong manner, so the prime minister is no way responsible. Even when congress senior leader Kapil Sibal became the telecommunication ministe , he claimed before the media that the loss if nil in 2G scam. While giving the verdict on 2G scam in February 2012, supreme court of India gave the verdict to cancel all the 122 distributed license of 2G spectrum and court also verdict that the sale of 2G spectrum is illegal and had not followed the government rule and regulations. Then the monsoon session of parliament was supposed to start and opposition demanded and had gone for agitation with an aim for Joint Parliamentary Committee(JPC). But JPC gave clean chit to prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh. At that time Anna Hazare declared that from coming June he will go for fast and agitation and government was not able to assume that what will be the move of that agitation of Anna Hazare. Then the government adopted attacking means to stop Anna Hazare’s move. Then Anna Hazare decided to went to Raj Ghat and that became the front line news inspite the speech of prime minister at Lalkila on the Independence day. But at that time government decided to arrest Anna Hazare and his supporters. Anna Hazare was jailed and he didn’t appeal in front of the magistrate. He started his fasting agitation in Tihar jail. The supporters of Anna Hazare were agitating in a a b=very strong way for three days and finally after three days the government had to surrendered before Anna Hazare and agrred to pass all the demands of Anna Hazare. The government also gave the permission to Anna Hazare to do rally at the Ramleela Maidan and he went for it as well. then finally, all the members of Parliament house passed the sense of house and agreed to pass the demanded laws of Anna Hazare. At that time the government was trying to stop the fast of Anna Hazare. And in that same year 2011 December Lokpal Bill was passed in the Lok sabha and after two day it was placed in Rajya Sabha but it failed to passed in the Rajya Sabha. The moment government got relief from Anna Hazare but at that time one more big scam came into public disclosure and it was coal gate. For the first time BJP leader Hanshraj Aahir raised this issue before the CAG about the coal gate issue. He was the member of standing committee on coal and iron. Question often comes into the minds that why question on Dr. Manmohan Singh’s government while the mistakes have been continuously committed from 1993. In fact Dr. Manmohan Singh kept the coal depart under his supervision from July 2004 to November 2004 and November 2006 to May 2009. He was targeted pin pointedly. Then government made an intermenstrial group and that group decided to cancel the license of 53 coal mines. During 2005 to 2009 a total of 57 mines were allotted and out of which 53 mines have decided to be cancelled. The amount of coal in those cancelled coal mines would be resulted in one lakh eighty five lakh crore of rupees. But congress party again applied the zero loss theory but according to Dr. Manmohan Singh it is not zero loss, but the amount which CAG is showing is quite more than the expectable. In September 2012 supreme court has decided that CBI will investigation on coal gate under the supervision of the supreme court itself. Then suddenly CBI director Ranjit Sinha declared that the report had been shown to the law minister Aswini Kumar and he had changed few things in the report as well. even there were other official members of the government who had been shown the report and all them change the original soul of the report. Still them after that amount of pressure and Dr. Manmohan Singh didn’t even dare to talk law minister Aswini Kumar regargding his resignation. At that time also another issue was going on railway minister Pawan Bansal and the issue was that few relatives of Pawan Banshal had taken bribe of ten crore for the appointment of railway chairman. This is how Dr. Manmohan Singh was totally surrounded with various scams and issues. During that point of time the government decided to cancel the ordinance that was about the leaders who have been completed their jail tenure and about their election participation. The day was 27th September 2013 when congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi himself blamed his party’s decision  and denoted as nonsense. After that comment of Rahul Gandhi a cabinet meeting was held a within just twenty minute the ordinance was taken back. Then in November 2015 there were five state election supposed to held and by that time Arvind Kejirwal had already been separated from Anna Hazare and he had already formed a new political party called Aam Aadmi Party(AAP). In 2013 election was held in Delhi and Arvind Kejriwal led AAP won the election and he became the chief minister of Delhi. And congress also lost state elections in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chattishgarh as well. While congress party was projecting Rahul Gandhi as the centre on the other side BJP was fighting election in the name of Narendra Modi who was remembering the scams, amount of corruption and public issue during congress government to the people. Both Narendra Modi and Arvind Kejriwal was capturing the people’s attention and congress was worried about the stand which the opposition has already taken place.

STORY OF SONIA GANDHI IN 2004

This chapter deals with the happenings after 2004 election. It was the matter after the results of 2004 general election, when congress party won the battle and surprisingly Sonia Gandhi decided not to hold the post of prime minister of India. During that time people were demonstrating against her that how can an Italian lady cum non- Indian lady became prime minister of India. But Sonia Gandhi played a master stroke to stop all her opposition leaders by deciding not to hold the post of prime minister of India. This is the story during 2004, prior to that it was NDA which was a coalition government and ruled for six years. No one had thought that Sonia Gandhi led United Progressive Alliance(UPA) will won the election. After the election the leaders of NDA strongly agitated that Sonia Gandhi will not be the next prime minister of India. By deciding not to hold the prime minister post of India, question often comes into mind that whether it was a political strategy or it is the offering nature of Sonia Gandhi. to understand the whole behind this, there is a need to know the whole background of Sonia Gandhi and how she became the chief of oldest political party congress.  Sonia Gandhi was just 21 when for the first time she landed herself in India. In that year she tied the holy knot with Rajiv Gandhi and from Sonia Maino she became Sonia Gandhi. during that time, she didn’t even think that one day the surname Gandhi will made her as the most powerful women of India. At the initial stage she was just the wife of Rajiv Gandhi and bride of Gandhi family. She was inculcation all the rituals, traditions and cultures of Gandhi family during her initial Indian days. Her address in India was 1 Safdarjung Road in New Delhi, which was the residence of prime minister and her mother in law Indira Gandhi’s residence. That residence was the centre and hub of India’s politics. At the initial days of her India stay she was trying to use to the systems of Gandhi family and in a very short span of time frame she could able to won the faith of Indira Gandhi. during those days Rajiv Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi were living a different life in their own way but due to some unexpected incidents both of them entered into politics. It was when Sanjay Gandhi died in a plane crash in 1980. Due to that incident a lot of changes came into Sonia Gandhi’s life. After that incident Rajiv Gandhi into politics and Sonia Gandhi also entered to help his better half. And after the demise of Indira Gandhi in the year 1984 Rajiv Gandhi became the next prime minister of India, but Sonia didn’t wish that Rajiv Gandhi to be the prime minister because she had a fear that the same thing may happen with Rajiv Gandhi, which happened with her mother in law.  And her fear turned into real sense after seven years and in 1991 election campaigning Rajiv Gandhi was killed by a suicide bomber. After Rajiv Gandhi’ assassination a big question raised before congress party that who will be the next leader of congress party. Basing on which Gandhi family member Congress party will move forward in the politics. Then the answer came before the congress party and it was Sonia Gandhi but whether Sonia Gandhi was ready to enter into the active politics after the shocking incident in her life. But Sonia Gandhi refused to enter into politics in 1991 and after her decision PV Narasimha Rao hold the post of prime minister of India. Apart from PV Narasimha Rao, there were many congress leaders who were interested and keen to hold the supremo post of congress party and India. Among all the leaders who were keen to be the supremo of congress party, Sharad Pawar was the strongest candidate by that time, he was no more a regional leader of Maharashtra. But PV Narasimha Rao took away the battle into his side and he became the supremo. But when PV Narasimha Rao led congress party lost the election battel in 1996 again Sharad Power tried to capture the supremo post of congress party but due to the support of PV Narasimha Rao, Sitaram Keshari became the head of congress party. Sitaram Keshari was aiming himself as the prime minister of India but on the other side the status of congress party was going down and down. Finally, Sonia Gandhi entered into active politics in the year 1997 and after few time she came to the front door of politics. She decided to campaign for the party because during that point of time congress party was going under a serious crisis. Even if she was new to the field but she had closed experienced the political skills of one of the best leader ever in I Congress party who was Indira Gandhi. she was quite aware of the fact that in politics it is quite more important to take action and decision in the most appropriate time. When she entered into the active politics of congress party, Sitaram Keshari was in doubt that Sonia Gandhi may capture the supremo post of congress party. And that happened as well in 1998 when Sonia Gandhi became the president of congress party.  But she firstly fought election from Amethi of UP and Billari of Karnataka in the year 1999 when BJP lost its majority. It was for the first time when congress party project her as the candidate for prime minister post. BJP started pointing out on the nationality of Sonia Gandhi and BJP put a question mark before congress party that How can an Italian individual became the prime minister of India. Susma Swaraj was fighting against Sonia Gandhi from Billari of Karnataka and more importantly Sonia Gandhi won against Susma Swaraj. Sonia Gandhi’s opposition also claimed that how can the people of India accept the person who came to India in 1968 and became Indian citizen in the year 1983. Sonia Gandhi was just avoiding her opposition’s claims but she was shocked when the party member also raised the same issue in the congress party of whom she was the president. It was Sharad Pawar who raised questions about the credibility of Sonia Gandhi to became the prime minister of India. Because he had a fear that if Sonia Gandhi will become prime minister for once then his dream will not be true at any cost and situation.  But Sharad Pawar didn’t assume about the aftermath of his move against Sonia Gandhi. and Sonia Gandhi played a tricky political plan that she was known the fact that the whole of congress party pleaded before her to hold the president post of congress party. So she resigned from the president post because she knew the fact that this will stop all the mouths which were shouting against her. After that a huge protest and agitation was going on to cancel the resignation of Sonia Gandhi. all the people of within congress party who were raising questions on the capabilities and credibility of Sonia Gandhi, all of them were expelled from congress party. After the CWC action on the three members who were raising question against Sonia Gandhi, she taken back her resignation and hold the president post of congress party. It was a big win for Sonia Gandhi and then she targeted Sharad Pawar. She addressed a huge mass in May 1999 at Delhi and in that address she responded to the questions raised by all her oppositions. It was a great strategy for Sonia Gandhi which worked for as well and built a strong image of Sonia Gandhi before the masses. After getting expelled from the congress party Sharad Power, P Sangama, S Anwar formed National Congress Party (NCP) and Sharad Power became the president of that party. But in 2004 election Sharad Pawar became part of UPA of which Sonia Gandhi was the president of it. It was from 1999 to 2004 when NDA government was ruling in the centre and Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the prime minister but again in the 2004 election BJP raised the foreign citizen issue before Sonia Gandhi. In 2004 election BJP was using two main things for its campaigning one was India Shining and other was the issue of foreign citizen issue of Sonia Gandhi. it was predicted that NDA government will again come into power but when the result came out it was UPA to be in power for the next term. In 2004 election congress backed 145 seats and became the largest party, while BJP limited only to won 138 seats.in total UPA backed 218 seat, while NDA won 181 seats but due to the outside support from left front it was UPA which formed its government in 2004. Then president gave proposal to Sonia Gandhi to form the government. the name of Sonia Gandhi has already been approved by congress cabinet committee but at that time Susma Swaraj announced before media that she will give resignation from her parliament membership if Sonia Gandhi will hold the post of prime minister. With that announcement NDA leaders actively participated in protesting against Sonia Gandhi’s prime ministership candidature. The clash of words between BJP and congress went on like this and suddenly a news came from the power corridors that Sonia will not be holding the prime minister post. Then as UPA was a coalition government then a big question was raised before UPA that who will be the right person to hold the post of prime minister of India. It was after eight years that congress was on power, so congress party didn’t want to have internal disturbances. So finally on 17th May 2004 Sonia Gandhi called up all the congress MP to her house at Delhi for Tea and she made all the MP to wait for two hours, in between she was talking to all other allied party to UPA. After that Dr. Manmohan Singh and Pranab Mukherji came in and declared that tomorrow morning Sonia Gandhi will going to meet the president of India. After listening to that line of Dr. Manmohan Singh all the MP’s got sigh of relief. Next day morning Sonia Gandhi went to President APJ Abdul Kalam’s residence and Dr. Manmohan Singh also went with her to meet the president. Suspense was at the peak as Sonia Gandhi was not expressing anything which she was thinking during that moment. Finally, it was 18th May 2004, when a cabinet meeting was held in the central hall of parliament and everyone was waiting for the announcement that who is going to be the next prime minister of India and it was live telecasted by Doordarshan. In that meeting she declared that she will not be the next prime minister of India and after that declaration all the MP’S were saying No No but she was stood on her decision. All the major leaders were trying to convince Sonia Gandhi to became prime minister but Sonia Gandhi didn’t change her decision. BJP claimed that it was not Sonia Gandhi’s sacrifice that she didn’t became the prime minister but she was compelling to take the decision that not to became the prime minister of India. But it didn’t take much to decide the name of prime minister, because Sonia Gandhi has already decided that Dr. Manmohan Singh will be the prime minister of India. It was totally amazed the people of India that Dr. Manmohan Singh can become the prime minister of India. He was a clean hearted politician, he was famous for his righteousness and integrity. He didn’t involve on any sort of petty politics in the party. That is the sole reason that Sonia Gandhi had a great faith on him. Then there were two power house in Delhi, one was seven race course road Prime minister’s residence and other was 10 Janpath where Sonia Gandhi was living. Sonia Gandhi didn’t have the right to enter in the government decision making process as she was the chairman of UPA. So National Advisory Council(NAC) was formed under prime ministers supervision and Sonia Gandhi became the chairperson of it. She got the ranking of a cabinet minister. After becoming the chairperson of NAC, Sonia Gandhi was giving suggestions to prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh regarding governance. It was NAC which proposed MGNREGA and RTI. The opposition of that time claimed that it is not the prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh who is running the government but it is Sonia Gandhi who is indirectly running the government. while the opposition was claiming about the presence of two power house in the centre but the congress party was denying the fact. The opposition also claimed that Dr. Manmohan Singh was the most weakest prime minister of India and he was a remote control prime minister, which remote is in the hands of Sonia Gandhi and she controls the whole government. There were no member in the congress party who can stand against Sonia Gandhi.

STORY OF GODHRA RIOTS AND ATAL BIHARI VAJPAYEE GOVERNMENT

This chapter is dealing with the happening that leads to Godhra riots in Gujurat. It was March 2002 in the parliament house when Atal Bihari Vajpayee has already made up his mind to resign from the post of prime minister.  But his subordinates and party members Pramod Mahajan and Yashwant Singh was trying to stop Atal Bihari Vajpayee from his resignation. But question often comes into the minds, that why prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was giving resignation? To understand the reason behind why Atal Bihari Vajpayee was ready to give his resignation, there is a need to know about the 2004 election campaign, where Atal Bihari Vajpayee gave the slogan and it was Indian Shining. Before that BJP won the state elections of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan as well. so the momentum was in favour of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. BJP was expecting to win the battel of general election of 2004 basing on Kargil war win, Sarba Sikhya Aviyan, Pokhran Test and PMSY in campaigning process. And above all the popularity of Atal Bihari Vajpayee was also another positive side for BJP to win the general election of 2004. But most of the presumption of many of experts became false and BJP couldn’t manage to win the majority in the 2004 election. Accoridng to Atal Bihari Vajpayee on of the most active and senior leader of BJP admits that due to Godhra riots BJP lost the election of 2004. What has happened in Gujurat and which made Atal Bihari Vajpayee to make a statement like that? It was 27th February 2002, when one compartment of Sabarmati express was fired and that took 59 lives of common individuals, out of which most of the travellers were coming from Ajodhya. On this case the lower court gave the verdict in 2011 and the verdict was death sentence to 11 people and lifetime imprisonment to 20 people. But just after one day of Godhra train incident which changed not only the politics of Gujarat only but also the politics of country for time to come. on the day of 27th February after the train incident a meeting was help in the chief minister house and Narendra Modi was the chief minister during that time of Gujarat. An IPS officer named by Sanjeev Bhatt claimed that Narendra Modi said during the meeting that if Hindus are reacting they it’s okey, but this statement was found to be false in the proceedings of supreme court. A special Investigation Team was formed to investigate the whole incident. In that meeting on 27th February 2002 it was made final that the dead bodies will transfer to Ahmedabad, and the people and the police were against of this decision of Gujarat government. most of the minister of Modi government of Gujurat were supporting the decision because they were thinking that that decision will bring some political interest for their party in the upcoming election. All the dead bodies were brought to Ahmedabad on 28th February 2002 through open trucks. All the dead bodies were submitted to the leaders of Viswa Hindu Parishad, while it was supposed to submitted to their relatives. During that there was no imposition of curfew but after few times riots scattered throughout the city. VHP called up bandh throughout the state. On that bandh date VHP people were targeting the shops of Muslims and their houses and colonies but the strange thing was the police was missing during that time. In total 97 Muslims were killed brutally by the rioters. The most affected area from that riots was Naroda Patia of Ahmedabad. In the area almost two thousand Muslims were living together, who were originally from Maharashtra and Karnataka and they were captured by more than five thousand Hindu rioters. On this case court gave the verdict and court has already gave verdict aginst 32 people and local MLA Maya Kodnani and VHP leader Babu Bajrangi was also included. Court called Maya Kodnani as the Kingpin of violence and sentenced her to be imprisoned for 28 years and court also sentenced Babu Bajrangi to live in the jail till death. All categories of Muslims were targeted in that riot and Gulberg society of Ahmedabad was also targeted. In this society ex-MP of congress government Ehsaan Jafree was also living with his family. According to his wife Jakia Jafree claims that his husband was calling the chief minister office many time but no one came to help him. Even the local SP also left the office by four in the afternoon.  When the rioters got that news that Ehsaan Jafree is living here that they burnt him alive, his wife claims that all the thing was pre-planned. Ahmedabad was centre of the riots but more cities in Gujurat were also affected due to the riots. Best Bakery case of Baroda was also quite known because the whole Bakery was fired from all side and 14 people were burnt alive and out of which 12 were happens to be Muslims. In total 16 people were found guilty in that case and out of which four accused were sentenced life imprisonment as well. according to the government of Gujarat totally 1267 people lost their lives and out of which 70% were happens to be to Muslims. People were reading and watching the telecast of the riots in Gujarat through newspapers and television. It can assumed from the reports of National Human Rights Commission of India. Retd. Chief justice of supreme court Justice JS Verma was the chairman of NHRC of that time. He had visited the affected places due to riots in Gujarat. Then he wrote a letter to prime minister that the state government of Gujarat had not been able to take strict action against the rioters and failed to consolidate the affected people due to riots. Question often comes into the minds that while all these things were taking place in Gujarat, what Atal Bihari Vajpayee was doing during that time? According to Atal Bihari Vajpayee Godhra riot incident was a black spot on the image of India at the international arena. But next day Atal Bihari Vajpayee changed his voice in a meeting with other member and media. In that meeting he showed concern over the deaths due to riots but he claimed that media exaggerated the whole issue which media shouldn’t do. The riots of Gujarat got international attention and for which president of India of that time KR Narayanan wrote a letter to prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and showed his concern over the riots of Gujarat. After one month of the riots prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee visited riots affected places in Gujrat. When it was asked to the prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on the Godhra train incident, he suddenly claimed that it was a pre-planned incident. But while he asked about the aftermath situation of Godhra incident, he replied to wait for the commission’s report. After the full day visit then a press conference was organised, where prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Narendra Modi was addressing the media and in that press conference prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee used a term Raj Dharma, which was one of most talkative word of that time.  The government of Atal Bihari Vajpyee was coalition government. after that riot of Gujarat Ram Vilas Paswan of Lok Janshakti Party resigned from the ministry of Atal Bihari Vaajpayee. No other minister didn’t give resignation and even few also praised Narendra Modi for his developmental approach in Gujrat as well. but Chadrababu Naidu of Telugu Desam Party demanded Narendra Modi’s resignation for the situation in Gujarat. The supporters of Atal Bihari Vajpayee claims that Atal Bihari Vajpayee was ready to take action against Narendra Modi but due to party members and the party’s future he was stopped from taking action. For which he thought to give resignation from his post of prime minister. But due the counselling of his friend and finance minister of that time Yashwant Singh, he finally didn’t resign from his post. While Atal Bihari Vajpayee was willing to take action against Narendra Modi, but LK Advani was not in favour of that because he tought that will lead to the differences in the party. After one and half to the riot in Gujrat BJP’S party working committee meeting supposed to be held in Goa, where pressure was mpunting on Atal Bihari Vajpayee to expelled Narendra Modi. But without consulting LK Advani it was almost impossible on Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s part to expel Narendra Modi from party. On that situation on 12th of April 2002 the working committee meeting took place in Goa and where all most all the senior leaders of BJP were present and Narendra Modi gave a long speech and he discussed about riot thoroughly and he also talked about his resignation but most of the voices in the meeting hall said absolutely no to Narendra Modi. But in that same day while addressing the common masses in Goa in a rally, Atal Bihari Vajpayee not only saved Narendra Modi but also put question mark before the Muslim community. After three months to the riots, prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee wrote a letter in the name of Narendra Modi, where showed his concerned over the compensation to the riot affected people. On the other side the state government of Gujarat was trying to take away the camps soon because the government was thinking that due to these camp systems it is harming the reputation of Gujarat. More than one and half lakh people were staying in those camps.  And in December 2002 state election happened in Gujurat, in which Narendra Modi got 127 seat out of 182 seat and Narendra Modi’s oath taking ceremony was organised in Sardar Patel stadium Ahmedabad. In 2003 also BJP could win three state election as well, so the party declared early election as it was predicting it’s win over the general election of 2004. As during that period India’s growth rate was touching 8percent and that year the monsoon was good also, so BJP got the slogan India Shining. But the plebiscite didn’t go in favour of BJP, it was the loss for BJP. After the defeat in the election Atal Bihari Vajpayee went to Manali and where he gave a speech and he denoted that Godhra riot as the main reason for BJP’s defeat in 2004 election. But RSS was not admitting that due to Modi or Hindutva BJP lost the battle of 2004 election. After six days from Manali Atal Bihari Vajpayee came to Delhi and by that time his voice was slowed down. When questions on Modi were asked to him, he replied that it has become an old issue now, no importance in discussing that. On 22nd June the working committee meeting was held in Mumbai and where it was made clear that the era of Atal Bihari Vajpayee came to an end. Just two months before BJP was fighting the election on the face value of Atal Bihari Vajpayee but now he has been cornered. So with that Atal Bihari Vajpayee also aware of that fact that now he doesn’t have that importance in the party, so he took himself bit far from active politics. But whenever any position was given to Narendra Modi, Narendra Modi most often went to Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s house to meet him and to take his blessings.

STORY OF NUCLEAR TEST AND KARGIL WAR

This chapter deals with the happenings related to the first ever nuclear test in India and the war of Kargil war. It was 11th May 1998, when prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee reached seven race course road prime minister’s residence and on that day a huge blast happened. On 13th May 1998 two more nuclear test conducted by India. In total five nuclear explosion conducted undergrounded. After that it was announced that the explosion of all the nuclear tests were successful. A press conference was organised where the member of the nuclear scientist addressed the media regarding the tests and the power of explosions. Indian was going to test atomic bomb; it was not in knowledge of any country throughout the globe. America was not in support that India should test nuclear bomb. America, Great Britain, Russ, China, France expect these countries America and its supporters were not allowing other countries to go for nuclear test. If any country was going for atomic bomb test, then America and its supporters were taking strict action against the country which was going for nuclear test. But Atal Bihari Vajpayee Led NDA government successfully tested the atomic bombs and announced India as a nuclear weapon nation like other before. Who benefited the most? Was it the nation India or the government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee? To understand the thing, we need to go back to the days of Jawaharlal Nehru government. India step to the field of nuclear science under the leadership of Jawaharlal Nehru. Just after eight months of independence India passed atomic energy act and with that act Indian Atomic Energy Commission was formed. According to the writer of the book titled Weapons of Peace, Raj Chengappa that Jawaharlal Nehru wanted India should develop the knowledge of making Nuclear bomb. Dr. Homi Jahangir Bhaba for the first time stepped in the field of nuclear energy in the year 1945. Under the active leadership of Dr. Homi Jahangir Bhaba Tata Institute of Fundamental Research was established in the year 1945. Next step was taken in the year 1954, when the government stepped into Nuclear energy, in that same year department of atomic energy was formed and Dr. Homi Jahangir Bhaba became the secretary of that department. Then process of developing the capability of making an atomic bomb was started under the supervision of Dr. Homi Jahangir Bhaba. In the year 1962 the war against Chin happened and in which India lost to Chin in a very miserable manner. And after two year to that war, Chin declared before the whole world that it as a nuclear nation. After that announcement of Chin all the party in India demanded before the government that India should also make atomic bomb. After the demise of Jawaharlal Nehru, Lal Bahadur Shastri became the next prime minister and he was not interested to make atomic bomb. So there was bitter relationship between Dr. Homi Jahangir Bhaba and Lal Bahadur Shastri. At that time Dr. Homi Jahangir Bhaba  declared that India can make the atomic bomb within just 18 months and he had delivered a speech to the public of India through AIR. All the opposition leaders were in favour of nuclear test and finally, prime minister Lal Bahadur Shastri agreed to develop the capability making an atomic bomb. After the war against Pakistan in the year 1965 Lal Bahadur Shastri left his last Breath and in the same year Dr. Homi Jahangir Bhaba also died due to a plane accident. Then Smt. Indira Gandhi became the next prime minister of India and Dr. Vikram Sarabhai Became the next secretary of department of atomic energy. He was not in favour of making the atomic bomb. At initial phases of Indira Gandhi government, she was influenced by Dr. Vikram Sarabhai but after the war against Pakistan in the year 1971, she realised that India should become a nuclear nation. So on 7th September 1972 India Gandhi visited Bhava Atomic Research Centre and where she was shown a wood replica of an atomic bomb. And after two years, India tested its first ever nuclear test at Pokhran in Rajasthan. 18th May 1974, Indira Gandhi led government conducted the first nuclear test and her government gave a peaceful message to the world that India just conducted this nuclear test just for test purpose, it has nothing to do with atomic bomb. Then next big step in terms of nuclear energy taken by PV Narasimha Rao government. he wanted to test the nuclear bomb and he instructed the scientists to be ready for the test but not go for test without the supervision of government. when the preparation came to an end, the dates of the general election have already been declared, so it was on the next government to go for the nuclear test or to postpone it. Then Atal Bihari Vajpayee came into power but only for thirteen days. And more strangely his government took the decision of testing atomic bomb within just two days but just after 12 days his government lost its majority and dissolved. For the second time on 18th March 1998 Atal Bihari Vajpayee became the prime minister yet again. before his oath he visited APJ Abdul Kalam and secretary of department of atomic energy to discuss over the status of nuclear test. Then 11th May of 1998 was final as the date of test and this operation was named as Operation Shakti. It was happening to be one such decision which could change the position of India at the international arena. APJ Abdul Kalam and R Chidambaram were the coordinators of the operation Shakti. The decision of nuclear test was taken by Atal Bihari Vajpayee when he was the prime minister of India through NDA and which was a government of coalition of 13 different parties. There were other senior leaders from the NDA government, who were aware of the decision of nuclear test and they were like LK Advani, Yashwant Sinha, George Fernandez, Yashwant Singh, Pramod Mahajan etc. Dr. Santanam was made the chief of site preparation at Pokhran. Everything was done during night to stay away from the satellites of America. After getting the green signal everything was started in a very careful and responsible manner. It was totally a secret plan and everything was kept secret from everyone’s eyes. The scientists were coming to the field in army dress and everyone was associated with the code words. With the active help from the 58th regiment of Indian army by 10th of May 1998 all the preparation came to an end and everyone was looking forward for the tests. Finally, on 11th May 1998 the nuclear test has been conducted and two more also conducted on 13th May 1998 as well. and most importantly each test was successfully conducted. After that government of India declared no to test any more nuclear test and pass no first use policy that India will never use the nuclear bomb firstly on any enemy nation. But America took this nuclear test of India as big challenge. During that Bill Clinton was president of America and he was quite angry on India’s move towards nuclear test and he imposed few restrictions on India. On the other side Pakistan also conducted six nuclear test as well on 28th May 1998. On the eyes of America and other European countries India started a race of nuclear test, so America and China passed a resolution against India in UNO, where the issues of Kashmir also got placed. That means the internationalisation of Kashmir, which India was in against, during that time that issues were on the international platform. During that time the relations between India and Pakistan was under ambiguous. but suddenly situation changed 15th September 1998 both the prime minister of India and Pakistan met each other in New York. And in that meeting the proposal of bus service from Delhi to Lahore was passed.  Next year in February Atal Bihari Vajpayee visited to Pakistan through the Delhi-Lahore bus service. He got warm welcome from his counterpart of Pakistan of that time Nawaz Sarif, both leaders were in favour of new start in the Indo-Pak relations. But in near future the things are going to change and it was unknown to both the leaders of the states. And an expected thing happened to India from Pakistan side that 200 army soldiers of Pakistan captured 140 stations of Indian army in Kashmir. The army depot of India in Kashmiri which was captured by Pakistan army, India use vacant during the winter season and use to regain it during summer. The plan was made by four army personnel of Pakistan to enter and capture the army depot of India in Kashmiri. Their plan was to capture the Kargil of Kashmir. Pervez Musharraf was one of the most important conspirator of that plan. When Pervez Musharraf became the army chief of Pakistan by that time both countries have successfully tested their nuclear bombs. The plan was very much clear for Pakistan that to send their army troops to Indian boarder and when will open their second front to fight with Pakistan, then Pakistan will challenge India through nuclear power. India firstly became aware of all this plan by 3rd May 1999. Kargil war was going to be the fourth war between India and Pakistan for Kashmir. But strange thing is that till 19th May 1999Indian army was unaware of that thing. At first Indian army was assuming that there would be infiltrators in Kargil but they were unaware of the fact that they are going to fight with the Pakistan Army. On the other side Pakistan was claiming they have nothing to do with the infiltrators, but the situation was getting more sensitive day by day. So finally, on 24th May 1999, a meeting was held among the members of Cabinet Committee on Security(CCS) and in that meeting a serious and important decision was taken that India should anyway boycott Pakistan army from Kargil. If India would open a new front towards Pakistan, then it would have been an open war between two nuclear nation. Then it was decided from the meeting amongst the member of CCS that Indian army will take action against the Pakistan army but not by crossing LOC and international border. Indian government also gave the order to Indian air force that not to cross LOC. Then the operation stated away and it is named after Safed Sagar. It was for the first time after 1972 that fighter jet were used for the war. Then Indian air force changed their approached and they did one of the most difficult task has ever done by any air force that Indian air force were targeting Pakistani jets from the heights approximately of 13000 to 18000 ft. then situation for Pakistan army became very much hard and India showcased the prove to the international media that Pakistan army is directly involved in this war. The people of India were getting pictures and videos of Kargil war through television and every day the seniors officials of Indian army were briefing the media about the status of the Kargil war. In between the Kargil war, it was for the first in the history that the dead bodies of the martyrs were taken to their native and that is why the war of Kargil reached to every nook and corner of India and it was great decision of the government. then Pakistan was totally in trouble with the reaction of India and then they gave a proposal to go for peace talk. Prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee gave reply in form of an address to the nation that we are ready to go for talk but there must be a definite and specific purpose. During that time on 11th June 1999 a big announcement was made that the ministry of external affairs of India called a press conference, where the minister Yashwant Singh played a radio tape in which Pervez Mushraff was talking to Mohd. Ajij from Beijing, Chin. Then it was clear that first Musharraf and then Nawaz Sarif went to Chin to get help. After Nawaz Sarif’s visit to Chin, Pakistan was seeking help from America and in return America suggested to focus on Lahore peace talk and then Bill Clinton called Atal Bihari Vajpayee to discuss about the current status of the Kargil war. While Pakistan was not willing to avoid the defeat of Kargil war and they were need of America’s help but America made the things clear that until and unless Pakistan to step back to their land there will no help from America’s side. But suddenly  on 4th June 1999 Nawaz Sarif went to America to meet president Bill Clinton and at the initial phase the meeting president Bill Clinton presented few images to Sarif and which was of Pakistani army moving the nuclear weapons from one place to another without the permission from Sarif. The meeting went on for some hours and then it was finalised that Pakistan will stepped down to their soil without any condition and it was in favour of India. In the year 2010 Pakistan admitted that they have lost the lives of 453 Pakistani soldiers, whereas Nawaz Sarif claimed that the number was more than 4000 but by that time he had lost the post of prime minister of Pakistan.

STORY OF ATAL BIHARI VAJPAYEE

This chapter deals with afterwards situation of 1996 general election. It was for the for the first time that BJP was in the ruling government and Atal Bihari Vajpayee became the prime minister of India but unfortunately only for 13 days. Within just 13 days of government Atal Bihari Vajpayee led government came to an end. The year was 1996 and it unfolded a new page in the Indian politics and the new page of Indian government was alliance government or coalition government. from that period the concept of alliance government is continue to be on force. Congress formed United Progressive Alliance(UPA) and BJP had to form National Democratic Alliance(NDA). In between 1996 to 1998 three government came into power and dissolved as well. all thing started with the result of 1996 general election. When BJP became the biggest party in terms of winning lok sabha seats and it was for the first time BJP formed it’s government in the centre with due coalition with some other party and Atal Bihari Vajpayee became the prime minister. In 1996 election BJP backed 161 seats, while congress managed to back 140 seats.  No party had the majority of 272 seats to form government in it’s own wish. So as BJP was the leading party by backing 161seat, It had the advantage of getting the proposal to form it’s government. everyone was waiting for the move of president of that time Shankar Dayal Sharma that to which party he will be giving the proposal to form the government. as because BJP had won the highest number of seats, so president approached Atal Bihari Vajpayee led BJP to form it’s government at the centre. Janata Dal leaders and left member were disappointed with the move of president, so they showed their unwillingness towards president’s decision. The opposition were complaining that how can BJP form the government while BJP didn’t have the majority in the Lok Sabha. It was quite impossible during that state of time to accumulate 272 MP’s for BJP to form it’s government, but Atal Bihari Vajpayee took it as challenge.  After trying at the best possible way BJP could able to bring 194 MP’s into their side but for majority the party was in need of 272 MP’s. president of India given two weeks to BJP to prove their majority in the parliament. It was a tough task for BJP to prove their majority in the parliament, so Atal Bihari Vajpayee was aware of the fact that his government will dissolve within a very short span of time period. It was for the first time that live proceedings of Lok Sabha were telecasted by television to the common masses of the country, so Atal Bihari Vajpayee was prepared to give that speech in such an igniting manner to get the public attention and support as if for the next election. The debate continue for three days in the house of parliament and before voting for no confidence motion Atal Bihari Vajpayee gave his resignation to the president of India. Then with the coalition of 13 different party United front leader HD Devegowda became the next prime minister of India. Even if HD Devegowda was not the first choice person to be the prime minister from united front but due to the disagree of VP Singh and Jyoti Basu there were no other suitable candidate to hold the post of prime minister of India. The way HD Devgowda became the prime minister, everyone have made up their mind that he might be holding the post of prime minister for a long period, but during that point of time an internal change occurred in the congress party and PV Narasimha Rao had to leave the party supremo post and it was Sitaram Keshari who became the new supremo of congress party and he was against PV Narasimha Rao. His ambition was to control the third front government. But due the personal discrimination between the two leaders finally a time came when Sitaram Keshari led congress party took away their support from HD Devgowda government and the government came to an end. Then it became a huge problem for the united front party to choose their next leader for that new sessions of meeting were held to finalise the next name to hold the post of prime minister. After various round of discussion, the name of IK Gujral came into public sphere and to became the next prime minister of India. Even if IK Gujral became the next prime minister but it was like double edged sword that he had to satisfy the needs and demands of congress party and HD Devgowda because it was the government of third front. Ata that time n interim report of the Jain committee came in the hand of the government which was about the assassination of ex-prime minister of India Rajiv Gandhi. after that report came into public sphere congress party leader Sitaram Keshari wrote a letter to IK Gujral and claimed before the united front government that to boycott all the DMK leaders from the government otherwise congress party will take away their support from the government. but all other party members of the united front government didn’t want to boycott the DMK members from the government. and finally on 28th November congress took away their support from the government. but question often comes into minds that during that process of time what BJP was doing? The way Atal Bihari Vajpayee resigned from the prime minister post he and his party BJP made up their mind next time they will try to come with majority, so that they can run the government for longer time period. BJP made few changes to their way of approach and identity to get the people’s support. BJP formed NDA and this strategy of BJP worked and again the 1998 election BJP stood as the biggest party in the country. BJP managed to won 182 seats and congress party backed 141 seats. BJP formed NDA and NDA accepted Atal Bihari Vajpayee as their leader. In 1996 there were only four party who had given their support to BJP but this time in 1998 BJP got 12 parties support and formed NDA. A new agenda was prepared by NDA, because it was not a single party’s manifesto. Before forming the government BJP had to prove it’s majority in the house of the parliament. Then after proving majority in the house of the parliament for the second time in the history of India that Atal Bihari Vajpayee took the oath as the prime minister of India on 19th March 1998. On the other side in congress party Sonia Gandhi became the party leader. She had challenge the government of Atal Bihari Vajpayee to be in the power. For this job AIDMK leader Smt. Jayalaitha and Janata Party leader Subramanium Swami helped congress party to accomplish their objectives. So AIDMK took away their support from Atal Bihari Vajpayee government and NDA government dissolved in the no confidence motion vote by one vote.  Then congress came forward to form it’s government in the centre. But unluckily congress couldn’t able form the government and again election was announced throughout the country.

STORY OF PV NARASIMHA RAO

This chapter deals with the happenings during the prime ministership of PV Narasimha Rao. Now our country India is something different than of during pre-independence. Now-a-days people are getting more opportunity in their life to achieve their individual objective. India is on the path of becoming a developed country. so question often comes into minds of the Indians that when it all started. It was 1991 which is regarded as the year from which a new era unfolded in the Indian history. Then who is the main hero behind this image of India, was it PV Narasimha Rao or two-time prime minister of India Manmohan Singh. Earlier PV Narasimha Rao was known for three things. First was Ajodhya issue, reforms in finance of the state and the last one was corruption. During his first two years of holding the post of prime minister, the first two things have already been happened. But for rest of his tenure as the prime minister of India, most of the time it was corruption which was scattered through. And the biggest scam was the Harshad Mehta scam. The root of this scam was reaching the prime minister of India. This scam was regarded as the biggest economic crime till that period in India. Harshad Mehta was very much known during that time for his activeness in the stock market of India. Prior to that scam it was 1991, when the economic market had been liberalised and the markets have been opened up for the foreign investors. But at the initial stages of opening market in India, there were no security checkpoint in the stock market. It was only two-year difference between 1991 and 1993, but a lot has happened in that two years. There was very less amount money in the hands of government during 1991. It was during January 1991, when the country was undergoing a severe economic crisis. Even the country didn’t have the money to repay the amount of liability.  If there was no way out to that situation, then India could become one of the country who failed to pay the amount of liability. During that time also India was purchasing oil and country was having money only for seven days, that means after seven days there could be no money any more to buy oil. Which was supposed to a serious issue of that time. It was one of transition phase the country was undergoing. At that point of time a meeting was held in the finance ministry. Reserve Bank governor of that time S Venkatramanan was also there in the meeting with the financial advisor to prime minister and he was Dr. Manmohan Singh. The governor suggested the financial advisor that RBI can use reserved gold for mortgage to avail money from the international banks and after listening to the suggestion Dr. Manmohan Singh took the governor’s proposal to prime minister of that time Chandrasekhar and the prime minister approved the proposal. He directed the governor of RBI to meet Rajiv Gandhi regarding this proposal because it was Rajiv Gandhi led congress which was supporting the government of Chandrasekhar from outside. Then Rajiv Gandhi agreed on the proposal of RBI governor, after that the finance minister of that time Yashwant Sinha also approved the proposal of RBI governor to mortgage the reserved gold of RBI. When that file regarding mortgaging of reserved gold of RBI reached the table of finance minister Yashwant Sinha by that time Chandrasekhar’s government has already out of power and the country was under a caretaker ministry. Then finance ministry signed the files regarding mortgaging the reserved gold of RBI. With that signature the path was clear for mortgaging the reserved gold, it was those gold which was seized from the smugglers and it was kept in the State Bank of India. The reserved gold’s were sent to banks of Switzerland and still it was not going to be enough, so still another 47000 kg of gold sent to bank of Japan and the government availed 1100cr rupee. But government failed to kept it secret from public eyes because Indian express reporter of that time Sankar Ayier published that in newspaper with photographs as well. for that economic crisis of India the most regarded reason was license permit system. During that point of time no license was needed to start a new factory but the government was deciding what amount of production the factory will do and by what price the products will be sold out. There was almost no chance for foreign investor to invest their money. IMF and other loan giving body at the international level were claiming before Indian government to change this approach. Till the last years of Rajiv Gandhi government the situation had already became out of control. After Rajiv Gandhi’s government VP Singh became the next prime minister but he didn’t take strong decision to stop the upcoming crisis. After VP Singh’s government it was Chandrasekhar’s government which had to face the crisis and all the responsibility was on the prime minister Chandrasekhar. During that time another big incident happened at the international arena and it was that Sadam Hussain captured Kuwait. America was preparing to attack on Iraq and it became an another issue for India because the rate of oil price was becoming high and high in each day. That incident broke the backbone of Indian finance strength. Golf war of 1991 compelled the government of India to change its economic and foreign policy, traditionally India aa a country was supporting the Arab countries and Iraq was coming under Arab countries. At the same time India was in urgent need of money from IMF and without the green signal from America it was quite hard to get loan from IMF. So America kept a condition before India that the government of India should give approval for landing the American fighter jets on Indian soil to refuel it. By giving green signal to America it was a message which would go to the society that India is supporting America’s attack on Iraq. It was Subramaniam Swami who had to talk with the American’s regarding the issue. After that talk, Indian government allowed the America to use Indian soil for their purpose and in reply India it’s demanded amount of money from IMF to find out a solution to the economic crisis. But still India was in need of money so for that cause the decision to mortgaging the reserved gold of the RBI was taken and it was the decision which was not taken by the cabinet. When this particular decision was implemented by that time it was clear that PV Narasimha Rao will be the next prime minister of India. So it a huge challenge before PV Narasimha Rao to deal with economic crisis for that he was in need of a good and expert person to hold post of finance minister. PC Alexander and PV Narasimha Rao at first offered IG Patel to hold the post of finance minister but he rejected the offer. During that time Dr. Manmohan Singh was holding the post of director of University Grants Commission and he suddenly got the call from PV Narasimha Rao to hold the finance minister. Then Dr. Manmohan Singh presented the first finance budget and in which it talked about economic liberalisation which changed the overall status of Indian history. During that time government supported and promoted the establishment of private company and due to this decision of PV Narsimha was facing protest from internal party members and outsiders as well. but still he kept ministry of industry under his belt so that he could look after the matter directly. PV Narasimha Rao not only take the help of Dr. Manmohan Singh but also opposition member Subramanium Swami for find a proper way out from the economic hazards. Then the situation was getting into control due to the economic liberalisation but at that time a huge scam was exposed and it was banks scam otherwise known as Harshad Mehta scam. By profession he was just a stock broker of that time but so far his property was concerned he was the dream for the middle class Indians. Due to his activeness in the stock market he was a popular face and use be covered by the best magazines cover page of that time. This scam was exposed when journalist of that time Sucheta Dalal broke the story when she came to know that Harshad Mehta engaged in manipulating the documents regarding share bond between SBI and RBI as the broker. He engaged in making wrong doings and made more than 534cr rupees personally. After knowing about the scam the senior officials of SBI called Harshad Mehta to talk about regaining the money from him. Then after a few days Harshad Mehta returned all the cheques to SBI, but RBI asked SBI that how can a broker give cheques of such a high amount. And after investigation it was found out that the cheque is from National Housing Bank, which comes under RBI. Then it came to public sphere that most of the banks are interconnected to the biggest economic crime in Indian history of that time. Pressure was mounting on finance minister Dr. Manmohan Singh for his resignation and after that JPC was formed to enquiry over that scam. It was for the second time after Bofors scam that JPC was formed. While both CBI and JPC was investigating the scam and they have arrested Harshad Mehta and after due interrogation he was released and after that Harshad Mehta clamed and accused that let not name it as  Harshad Mehta Scam it is originally PV Narasimha Rao scam because he claimed that he had given bribe of one crore to the prime minister of India. According to Harshad Mehta on 4th November 1991 with his brother Aswini Mehta had been to PV Narasimha Rao and had given him a suitcase which was contatning 67 lakhs of Indian rupees. Then it was rejected that the claims of Harshad Mehta is prove less and illogical and then Harshad Mehta hold another press conference, where he tried to showcase how one suitcase can contain more 67lakhs of Indian rupee. The opposition was demanding the resignation of prime minister then PV Narasimha Rao rejected all the accusation on him and he met Harshad Mehta. The monsoon session of parliament was about to start and the opposition like left parties, BJP and few internal leaders of congress party like Arjun Singh, ND Tiwary and Sharad Power was making their own ways to trap prime minister PV Narasimha. The opposition was supposed to present No Confidence motion against the government of PV Narasimha Rao. Most of the opposition party were in favour of No Confidence motion. During that time congress party was having 249 seats and on the day before No Confidence motion and everyone’s eye was on the move of Janata Dal(A) which was led by Ajit Singh. And finally he decided that his party will be in support of No Confidence motion against PV Narasimha Rao government. after that announcement of Ajit Singh, more pressure mounted on PV Narasimha Rao to resign but he didn’t resigned. Finally, 251 votes went in favour of No Trust vote and 265 against the No Trust vote. So finally from the verge of dissolution of PV Narasimha Rao government escaped. Lot of political members were accused of giving bribe and receiving it but no one has been penalised for the mistakes. Throughout PV Narasimha Rao’s prime ministership numbers of accusation had been alleged on him but not a single one had been proved. After the Ajodhya issue the government of PV Narasimha Rao was bit weak due to the constant expose of scams after scams and at that time a new things came into public sphere and that was Hawala scam. It was that scam in which lot of political leaders, bureaucrats, senior officials of government of India were indulged in taking bribe. During that the general election was about to come by 1996 and suddenly charge sheet have been filed against few very well-known political leaders and people are thinking that there must some political interest of making quick move in Hawala scam. For the election the opposition was making the corruption as the major means for getting public support to defeat Narasimha Rao government. The intention of PV Narasimha Rao very much clear to get the political mileage by using Hawala scam to trap most of his main opposition leaders in congress party and outside as well. but the strategy of Hawala didn’t have any sort of positive result in 1996 election to PV Narasimha Rao. And his government came to an end. Then Harshad Mehta came into the market yet again but this time he found to be guilty for a small incident and he was jailed for five years and he died in 2001 in Jail itself. The best thing happened for the national cause during PV Narasimha Rao’s government was the economic liberalisation but at the same time the corruption was the major problem of his government.

STORY OF ASSASINATION OF RAJIV GANDHI

This chapter deals with the unhappenings which lead to the assassination of India’s youngest Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. It was 21st May 1991, when Rajiv Gandhi was supposed to address a rally at Sriperembandur in Chennai. Before his arrival at the rally place, his murdered has already been arrived long before.  Before Rajiv Gandhi to address the gatherings at the rally, he was killed on his way to the stage. After that shocking event, it was coming to the public sphere that Rajiv Gandhi was killed by a suicide bomber and her name is Dhanu. While Rajiv Gandhi came towards the people, who were waiting for his arrival at the rally, during that time Dhanu went towards Rajiv Gandhi as if she is going to touch the feet of Rajiv Gandhi. But while she bends herself to touch the feet of Rajiv Gandhi, a huge and devastative bomb blasted and after that everything were scattered and a dead body was found out many at that place and it was the dead body of Rajiv Gandhi. after that incident it was found out that Dhanu was associated with LTTE. Who were the people of associated with LTTE and what was their relation with India? And most importantly why they killed Rajiv Gandhi? it was 29th July 1987 and Rajiv Gandhi was the prime minister of India during that point of time. He went to Srilanka to sign the peace accord between India and Srilanka. During that time JR Jaywardhene was the president of Srilanka. Both head of the states passed a treaty between India and Srilanka. During that period in Srilanka, when the civil war was going on, there were a very few people of Srilanka who were against of the treaty between India and Srilanka. It was the period when the clash was on between the Singhali and the Hindu Tamil people. According to the treaty Srilanka government agreed to give more right to the Hindu Tamil people but in lieu of that India had to take action against the Tamilian who are taking help of weapon and promoting civil war in Srilanka. The most active group which was challenging the military power of Srilanka was Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelamm (LTTE). This group was demanding a separate state from Srilanka. B Pravakaran was the head and chief of LTTE. India did that treaty with Srilanka for sake of Tamil people in Srilanka. When the treaty was signed by both India and Srilanka during that time Pravakarn was not present in Colombo, he was present in Ashoka hotel at Delhi. He was watching the telecast of the when the treaty was signed by both the country. Five days before to the treaty Pravakaran came to India and he address a group of journalist and where he pointed that there is no other way out except the freeing the Tamil states in Srilanka. Indian officials tried their best to convince Pravakaran over the dilemma of Srilanka, but he was not in a state to compromise with Eelamm. So finally, on 28th July he was called by the Indian prime minister of that time Rajiv Gandhi to find a way out of the issues. But it is strange that when Pravakaran was the same person who was the mastermind behind killing Rajiv Gandhi. The supporters of LTTE claimed that Pravakaran was in interest of talking to Rajiv Gandhi over the issue Eelamm. But the very next day Rajiv Gandhi went to Colombo pass the treaty between India and Srilanka. With that treaty India directly entered into the internal issue of Srilanka which was going on since last ten to fifteen years. It was long back story when Srilanka got independent in 1948 just after one year of India’s independence. During that time Srilanka was known as Silon. Prior to that for the garden work India Tamil speaking Hindu people were taken from India to work there in Srilanka. But the Singali administration of Srilanka was boycotting the Tamil speaking people from every social rights and benefits for which the Tamilian’s were thinking as if they are the second class people of the state. During that time it happens to be 23% out of total population of Srilanka who were Tamil. After few days also the Singhali government also boycotted the Tamilian’s from giving their vote as well. After that move of the local administration, the Tamilian’s became stateless and they had no more nations to be known for. In 1956 the Srilanka government declared Singhali as the only official language in the state. So it was almost impossible for the Tamil speaking people to enter into any government job. Then in 1972 new turnaround came in the Srilanka state that in this year the new constitution was supposed to be implemented. According to the name Silon replaced by Srilanka and the Baudh announced as the primary religion of Srilanka. But nothing changed for the Tamilian’s. When the government of Srilanka didn’t look after the problems and issues of Tamilian’s, then they took the help of weapon and violence and V Pravakaran was part of that. And on 5th May 1976 V Pravakaran formed the LTTE. Within few year LTTE became as one of the strongest and disciplined group in Srilanka against the administration. During that period Indian government was giving training to the Tamilian’s. Then on 23rd July 1983 Tamilian’s killed 13 army staffs of Srilanka and then the Tamil riot movement raised throughout the country and it is popularly known as Black July. And it resulted in the civil war throughout Srilanka and for which Tamil people came to India as refugees to take shelter in Tamilinadu. The number was in thousand and from that situation a separate Tamil state was demanded. The situation of Srilanka was directly impacting the Indian political sphere. So Indian government was trying to convince the Tamil association and the government of Srilanka to find a way out of these issues. By 1987 India was thinking about to take a big step in Srilanka itself to stop all the riots. On the other side the Srilankan army has already started an operation to get over the LTTE. Then Indian Air Force started the operation by dropping the reliefs in Jaffna. Then on the day of the treaty among India and Srilanka, prime minister Rajiv Gandhi decided that to send the Indian army troops to Srilanka to control the situation. The Indian troops which were sent to Srilanka it was known as Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF). The task which was given to the IPKF that to divide the LTTE and Srilankan armed forces and then to make surrender of LTTE to calm down the ongoing destruction. Then IPKF talked to the chief of LTTE Pravakaran and convinced him to surrender. After that discussion Pravakaran given a written document that hiss team will be surrendering before the Indian army. When IPKF arrived in Srilanka , it was not only the LTTE who were active against the Srilanka government but also few other associations were also active.  After few days of surrendering LTTE claimed before the IPKF that RAW of India is giving weapons to the other association and by that means LTTE stopped surrendering. They again started destruction with the help of other countries. Then a meeting of all the Indian agencies  with Pravakaran was held and which was successful as well. But meantime 17 LTTE commander were killed and LTTE went in against of India. After that event LTTE became out of control from Indian army. Then LTTE started fighting against Indian army. Then LTTE became an enemy for India itself. Then army chief on 8th October gave the order to attack on LTTE. Almost all the political party in Indian were against of this move of Rajiv Gandhi government. Agitation was started to begin from Tamilnadu and agitators were demanding to back IPKF from Srilanka. IPKF was in Srilanka to help Srilankan government but Srilankan army merged with LTTE. Then in 1988 election of Srilanka and on 2nd January 1989 R Premdas became the next president of Srilanka. His government compromised with the LTTE and merged with theme. At that time also VP Singh became the next prime minister after the defeat of Rajiv Gandhi led congress party in the general election. Then VP Singh called up the IPKF from Srilanka to India. Almost 1248 Indian soldiers were martyred in Srilanka.  In 1991 election was there in India and LTTE was having the fear that if Rajiv Gandhi will became the next prime minister then again Indian army will attack on LTTE  and for which Rajiv Gandhi became the centre of target for LTTE. After the assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, India lost a leader and it’s youngest prime minister ever. That was not the end of LTTE, the end of LTTE came after 18 years of assassination of Rajiv Gandhi, when Srilankan army killed Pravakaran. Even today also Tamil people in Srilanka re facing problems and their human rights are being violated as well.

THE STORY OF MANDAL COMMISSION AND FALL OF VP SINGH

This chapter deals with the happenings related to the Mandal Commission and the fall of one-time prime minister of India VP Singh. During 1990 the government of VP Singh formed Mandal commission, when it was decided that in the government jobs a special reservation will be given to other backward classes. VP Singh was the leader of the government during that time but in the eyes of the students he was like a villain. He was the hero prior to the Mandal commission, because he took a stand on corruption during that stage of Indian politics. Then he decided to give special status to the backward classes by forming a commission known as Mandal commission and for which the political stature and the thinking approach of the common individual change for time to come. the whole story started from one year ago, when VP Singh was supposed to be chosen as the next prime minister of the country. there were another two name which were coming to be named as the prime minister of the country and those names were Chandrasekhar and Debilal. But it was the time which was in favour of VP Singh and on 2nd December 1989 he became the 8th prime minister of India. The opposition party member claimed that VP Singh cheated to became the prime minister of the country. but the internal disputes of Janata party were anyway coming into public sphere. It was Arun Nehru for whom the differences between VP Singh and Debilal went on in a long way. Om Prakash Chautala was one of the most prominent reason for whom VP Singh was quite upset with Debilal. After becoming the deputy prime minister Debilal made his son Om Prakash at the chief minister of Haryana. During that time Chautala was the member of legislative assembly, for which he fights a by-election from Mehem. On 27th May 1990 due to some issues, again on 28th May 1990 the election was done and Chautala didn’t wanted to lose the election, so for which his supported captured few election booths. After that the opposition party opposed this move of Chautala and that resulted in firing and due to that fight few people lost their lives as well. Chautala was alleged for capturing election booths and using mischievous means to win the election. For which he had to resign from the chief minister post due to the pressure of VP Singh. After the resignation of Chautala from the post of chief minister of Haryana, Debilal was bit upset with VP Singh. And after that Debilal took a quick action and Chautala won the election from another seat and Debilal sworn his son within a small time frame. Arun Nehru was quite against with this move od Debilal. Even few outside party like BJP and Left which gave support to Janata party were quite against of Debilal’s move over his son’s chief ministership. Till that moment prime minister VP Singh was not taking any sort of move in regards to that happenings. But after regular pressure on VP Singh, he opted for his resignation in spite of accepting the resignation of other ministers. After that move of VP Sing it was made clear that the government is going under severe political threat. Nothing happened like that because it was plan of VP Singh to expel Debilal. Party cancelled the resignation of VP Singh and huge pressure amounted on Debilal and for which his son Chautala had to resign his chief minister post of Haryana. Finally, Debilal was also expelled from the post of deputy prime minister due to his intentional and mischievous way for putting pressure on VP Singh to take action against Arun Nehru. It was threat for the government itself because it may lead to the dissolution of the government. then VP Singh played his master stroke and that was the Mandal commission report. So for this purpose he called a cabinet meeting on 6th August 1990. VP Singh was having a fear for the rally which was supposed to addressed by Debilal on 9th August 1990. Mandal Commission was formed under the leadership of Morarji Desai in the year 1979 to give special status the backward classes. Ex chief minister of Bihar BP Mandal was the head of the commission to submit the commission’s report. The commission was assign to identify the socially and educationally backward classes to add them in the main stern flow of society. Based on their report the new reservation system was supposed to be imply by the government. in the year 1980 the Mandal commission submitted its report but by that time there was no Morarji Desai government. after ten years 1990 prime minister VP Singh announced in the parliament based on Mandal commission report. Due to implication of Mandal commission report a major chunk of the country’s population was supposed to be benefited. Almost 3700 castes which was capturing 52% of the total population of the country were got benefitted from the Mandal commission report. Which is a big vote bank for the political parties. Finally, the government implicated Mandal commission report in the government job by giving 27% reservation to the backward classes. Earlier it was 22% and after Mandal commission it went up to 49% that almost 50% of government will be reserved for the backward classes. No political party was not able to stand against of this move of VP Singh but it was the student masses who were leading their academic life with an aim to get employed in a government job, so the student masses came in agitation against the implication of Mandal Commission report. The agitation was getting the momentum and bandh were called in few places and violence took place in few places as well. then the opposition party alleged the VP Singh government that it is promoting the caste war in the country and during that time police lathi charged against student of Delhi Varsity in the north campus, where a student named by Rajiv Goswami declared that he will burn himself alive and he did that as well. after that incident similar incident took place I many places in the country. But VP Singh was not ready to rethink over the implication decision of Mandal Commission report. He was aware of the fact that his government will dissolve soon but he was sticking to his decision over Mandal commission report. Then BJP worked out its plan and senior BJP leader LK Adwani decided to go for a car festival from 25th December 1990. It was one of the major reason for which the government of VP Singh dissolved. By that time supreme court stayed on the implication of Mandal commission report. It was a win for the huge number student mass who were opposing the Mandal report. The agitation was slowdown and VP Singh thought that the thereat has passed away. But by that time the car festival of LK Adwani became new threat for VP Singh. Many talks were held between the Babri Masjhid Action Committee and Biswa Hindu Parishad but no result came out of those discussion. So finally S Gurumurthy was chosen to recommend the government about the Ajodhya issue. He suggested the government to take the land and refer it to supreme court. For that an ordinance was also prepared to solve the Ajodhya issue but all went in vain without any result. Because both the party were not accepting the norms and conditions of the ordinance. By that time LK Adwani’s car festival reached Bihar and on 22nd October a meeting of all the state chief minister was organised whre the Ajodhya issue and the car festival of LK Adwani was supposed to be addressed. Where chief minister of Uttar Pradesh Mulayalam Singh Yadav announced that he will not allow LK Adwani to enter into his state. At the same time all other minister also was putting pressure on VP Singh to take action over Car festival of LK Adwani. VP Singh had an opportunity that to showcase his secular image by stopping the car festival of LK Adwani and he did that accordingly. On 23rd October 1990 Adwani was arrested by the police and it was the supervision of VP Singh. But LP Yadav claims that it was his own move to stop Adwani’s car festival but anyway the car festival came to an end. Then BJP took away it’s support from the government and then VP Singh government came to an end and finally dissolved. After that Chandrasekhar became the next prime minister of India, due to the support of congress party. Finally, on 16th November 1992 the supreme court gave the verdict in favour of implication of Mandal commission report in government jobs, but the court kept the creamy layer out of that reservation. After sixteen years’ in the year 2008 the higher educational institution was also coming into imply the Mandal commission report. Due to the Mandal Commission report it changed the political ideology and the wave of politics in India. It also brought changes in the social strata as well.

STORY OF BOFORS SCAM

This particular chapter deals with one of the big scandal of Indian political history and it was Bofors scandal. It was April 1987 when an event occurred and it changed the face of Indian politics. During that time, it was coming to the public sphere that few politicians have taken commission while purchasing the Howitzer Gun from Sweden. Prior to that Rajiv Gandhi became the youngest prime minister of India in the year 1984. He became the prime minister after the assassination of her mother cum prime minister of the country Indira Gandhi. few days after the country had to face the general election and in that election Rajiv Gandhi led congress party won with the highest margin ever. Rajiv Gandhi talked about revolution of computer and fight against corruption. It was the centenary for congress party in the year 1985 and a meeting was organised by the congress party members where Rajiv Gandhi gave a speech for seventy-five minute and he mentioned congress party as a mass movement. He documented the vision of the congress party for the future endeavour.  In that speech he talked about the internal issues of the party and how few congress leaders are becoming danger for the party itself because of their personal political ambitions. He was getting the mass support and he was identified as the Mr. clean of Indian politics. At the same time the working president of congress party KP Tripathy and few others were writing letter for Rajiv Gandhi. working president of congress party KP Tripathy sent that letter to Rajiv Gandhi on 22nd April 1986. The centre of the letter was eyeing on Rajiv Gandhi and it was only one and half year to Rajiv Gandhi to hold the Prime Minister post but few congress leaders from the congress party itself were questioning his ideology. And most importantly the draft of that letter to Rajiv Gandhi was drafted by president Pranab Mukherjee. When it came to the public sphere that Pranab Mukherjee has drafted the letter then he was boycotted from the congress party. It was Arun Nehru’s hand behind this decision of Rajiv Gandhi’s move to expel Pranab Mukherjee. During that time Arun nehru’s activeness was quite very much popular in both the party and the government. Arun Nehru, Arun Singh and VP Singh were the prominent congress politician at that time. Arun Nehru was the state home minister during that time but time changed when Rajiv Gandhi changed his cabinet for the another time after getting elected as the prime minister. And this time Arun Nehru failed to secure a portfolio in Rajiv Gandhi’s cabinet. These were the minimum issues for Rajiv Gandhi but the original threat for him was caused by his friend VP Singh. He had served the people of Uttar Pradesh as the chief minister of the state, Sanjay Gandhi played a big role in his political stature. After becoming the prime minister Rajiv Gandhi gave the finance minister portfolio to VP Singh. And VP Singh started a campaign against the corrupt companies who were not obeying the norms of tax and other things. Due to these heavyweight steps, he was becoming a popular and loyal politician in the eyes of the common masses. Then Rajiv Gandhi made changes that he changed VP Singh’s portfolio. He took the finance department from VP Singh and gave him the defence ministry. It happens when VP Singh was preparing the budget for 1987. On 6th February 1987 director of enforcement directorate Vorelal sent a not to revenue secretary Binod Pandey. It was mentioned in that note that on Vorelal’s way to America he had given task to the spying agency called Firefox. The work which was assigned to Firefox that to find out the list of companies which are violating the norms of taxes of government and engaging themselves in anti-national interest. An emoluments was supposed to given to Firefox according to their assignments. After sending the note Vorelal was expelled from the director post and during that time defence minister VP Singh sent a note to the finance ministry and in that note he mentioned that he orally ordered Vorelal to give the assignments to the foreign spying agency Firefox. After that news came into the public sphere few congress leaders thought that it was a conspiracy to boycott Rajiv Gandhi from the post of prime minister. People were accusing him for taking the help of a foreign spying agency without taking permission and consultation from the prime minister. But VP Singh could able to find the way out of that issue that he picked the issues related to the purchasing of Panduvi from the HDW company of Germany. It was for the first during the prime ministership of Indira Gandhi when Panduvi was purchased and again for the second during the reign of Rajiv Gandhi the contract was renewed by the India and HDW of Germany. And the government of Indian has already been given approval of renewal. Then VP Singh wrote a letter to the ambassador regarding the minimisation of price of Panduvi but he got the answer from the ambassador that the commission has already been given to the Indian brokers so the price cannot be minimise. VP Singh has already made up the mind that to challenge Rajiv Gandhi because he knew the fact that Rajiv Gandhi is trying to get rid of him. So Rajiv Gandhi formed a two judge bench committee to enquiry over the Firefox issue and VP Singh was in front of the committee in the supreme court. Rajiv Gandhi was planning to form the commission by 6th April but at that time VP Singh played his master stroke by holding a press conference on the HDW Panduvi issue. And in that press conference he announced that investigation will be done over the HDW Panduvi issue. The affinity between Rajiv Gandhi and VP Singh was getting wider and wider day by day. With that the national politics took a new way. From the initial time the relation between the president and the prime minister was not so good and it was made clear when VP Singh met the president Gyan Jail Singh. The president was purposing VP Singh to be the next prime minister but VP Singh didn’t agree on the proposal of Gyani Jail Singh. VP Singh was aware of the fact that he will not be having any portfolio in the next cabinet of Rajiv Gandhi and he has already decided to leave the cabinet. He prepared his resignation and finally resigned from the defence ministry on 12 April 1987 but he didn’t leave the congress party. After four days a news came in the Indian Radio and that changed the politics of India for time to come. A weapon making company of Sweden called Bofors gave lakhs of dollar to the Indian politicians to sell its 155mm Howitzer Gun. This news has already been broadcasted in the radio of Sweden as well. when this new came to the Indian sphere the budget session of parliament was going on. After high amount of agitation and protest Rajiv Gandhi replied that there is no middle man in the deal with Bofors and no commission has not been taken as well. the point was when the deal was made between Bofors and India at that time Rajiv Gandhi himself was the head of the Defence ministry. Rajiv Gandhi had been to the funeral of the prime minister of Sweden and after the funeral work he met the new prime minister of Sweden and decided that Indian will be buying the weapons from Bofors. As the news was breked by the Swedish radio so Indian Government was putting pressure to cancel all the reports of Bofors Scam. The Swedish government decided not to investigate anything in regards to Bofors scam and it was made clear that Bofors had not given any sort of commission to ant any Indian politician. Indian government was avoiding any sort of Scams. The agitation and protest was getting the momentum while Rajiv Gandhi decided to hold a rally in Delhi, where he addressed the masses and in that address he indirectly attacked on VP Singh. Now the fight was on going on openly and it has already gone a far way. VP Singh was not only person, who was against of Rajiv Gandhi, there were another three prominent congressmen like Arif Mohammad, Arun Nehru, VC Shukla. They were also expelled by the congress party. Then VP Singh resigned from Rajya Sabha and then he was also expelled by the congress party. Few days back these were the people who were ruling the government but now they are not in the government and in the party also. A new angle has come to that story and the centre of that’s troy was Arun Singh. He was the friend of Rajiv Gandhi. he was the state defence minister of that time. He sent note to Rajiv Gandhi where he mentioned that it has already been proved that Bofors had given commission to the Indian politician. So he was putting pressure on Rajiv Gandhi to talk to the Swedish government to give the details so that the truth can be revealed. Arun Singh was demanding the proper investigation of that Bofors issue but Rajiv Gandhi didn’t give the green signal to that. So on 18th July 1987 Arun Singh resigned from the ministry. But the protest and agitation was going on so finally a thirty-member committee was formed to investigate that issue. After the investigation that committee gave clean chit to the government of India over the issue of Bofors. But legendary journalist Chitra Subramanium and N Ram published an article in Hindu and few new name came into the open era like GP Hinduja and the Bofors scam was getting more and more suspense. Then it was made clear that there were three company who were involved in that scam and they were Pitko, Swenska and AE services. But it was quite not clear at that time that who is the owner of AE services. Above all one man got benefitted hugely from this Bofors scam and he was VP Singh, he became the face against corruption. Then he fights the election from Allahabad and Rajiv Gandhi posed Sunil Shastri against of VP Singh. VP Singh backed a big win over congress party and many other oppositions were giving support to VP Singh. Then the election came and VP Singh was targeting Rajiv Gandhi’s government over the Bofors scam and he was directly saying that Rajiv Gandhi is having money in the name of Lotus in Swish bank. At last in the election 1989 it was a big loss for congress party. VP Singh made the governed by getting the support from BJP and other parties. VP Singh became the prime minister and as he was given the word to the public that to expose the Bofors scam, so he handed over the Bofors scam case to CBI. But before the result his government was dissolved. At that time a big news came to the public sphere that AE services belong to the Quattorchi couple. After that CBI made charge sheet against many people. But the case was dismissed by the Delhi High court later on. But still it is yet to be revealed that who is the real culprit behind the Bofors scam?
